Positive lists of European Drinking Water Directive – are your substances covered?

Materials that come into contact with water intended for human consumption must fulfil certain minimum requirements. Therefore, only substances (as starting substances, compositions and constituents) that are on the corresponding positive lists may be used to manufacture these materials. In April 2024, the legal acts defining the positive lists, the information requirements and the administrative procedure for updating the European positive list were published in accordance with the requirements of Article 11 of the Drinking Water Directive. From the end of 2025, it will be possible to notify ECHA of the intention to propose changes to the European positive lists. From the end of 2026, applications for amendments (including applications for additions or deletions) to the European positive lists can be submitted to ECHA.
